How so? It's very virtuosic and passionate, I think it's a very nice ending. :)

well, its wierd

im talkin about the part where it just stands still and scales fly up, its just a bit wierd...

ok yeah its good, but it should be better

IMO chopin's climaxes arent as riveting as liszt's and alkan's

The scales and octaves at the end, though a bit incongruous, ends the piece very well: on a note of despair and despondency, which fits the overall mood of the piece.

Chopin's climaxes are certainly different than Liszt's and Alkans in the way that they are not as vulgar or opening virtuostic.

I don't think it does.

The coda gives it a good ending.

It's original, yet not very innovative. It is a simple G melodic scale, used geniously. He brings back the theme in it too. So it concludes the entire piece well.

And the cromatic scale in octaves creates a wonderful climax right at the end of the piece 8)

The octaves are easy; yet very impressive.

I can't play any of the ballades except a few measures of the no.1

I never get sick of talking about the Ballades. I've played all four, though none very well (I get sick of them after a while), and the fourth is by far my favorite. No other even compares. But I love all of them.

Read more closely. 8) I said I don't get sick of TALKING about them. I really don't get sick of listening to them, either, just playing them when I do so too often.

Vulgar and loud doesn't always translate into good. I enjoy Chopin's climax even more than the loud bombastic Alkan ones. It's much more meaningful and subdued, not overdone. Alkans music is replete with extraneous vulgar climaxes. It's not my taste.

That's true. Chopin's climaxes are more of the subtle, beautiful, and complete type. Liszt's, and Alkans, while I like them a lot for their exhilaration and scintillating quality, doesn't really satisfy in the same way as Chopin's music. All the ballades have that exemplary Chopin climax.

Alkan is sometimes gratuitous, IMO.
