Prelude 24

OK, how about some tips on playing Prelude #24, D minor...The falling triplet 3rds in the climax...I can play them ok, but I have trouble bringing out the upper note as the louder note...I can't hear it as well as I'd like to. Also, does everyone ride the sustain pedal the whole way as is written? I listen to professional recordings and I can't figure out what they're doing.

Ehm, I played Op.25/6 and now they come out fine. But, you don't have to do that i guess.

The pedalling is quite hard, you have to use your ears a lot to tell when its too muddy, though you do want a bit of it. My score didnt have pedal :\

And if you want the upper note to sound out, one quick fix is to rotate your wrist a bit, or check your fingering.

Though I assume your thirds had to be pretty good before playing this etude. ;) When I want to bring out the top note in intervals, btw, i usually practice just the upper note without the other one (with same fingering as you would use otherwise, but keeping the other finger as still as possible. After a while, that melody / finger pattern becomes memorised, so then, even when playing intervals, the upper note finger is stronger.

At least that is how it works for me, but it is very difficult to give general advice on these things of course.
