Best Schumann PC-recording?

Postby Fryderyk » 13 May 2006, 08:06

PC as in piano conerto, not personal computer.

I have a superb D Lipatti-recording, and what I would call a good recording by D Barenboim. I am looking for more, and in this case I am a little picky about the sound quality because it can ruin the orchestra. Not too old in other words. I can recall this topic being talked about before, but I didn't find anything while searching.

The afore-mentioned Lipatti is superb.

Great, I'll try to get hold of as many recordings by these gentlemen as possible. Is there, briefly, any pianist from your list who has done special interpretation in terms of creativity or originality?

Cortot, but that shouldn't come as a surprise. The VonSauer is also very striking to my ears (and it's with my favorite conductor of all time, Mengelberg)--here's a link to some biographical info:

Well, considering I'm the girl who almost died from shock last summer when I found out that Rachmaninoff wrote SYMPHONIES, that shouldn't surprise you. :?

(I only started really paying attention to music in winter of '04, heh)

The first movement is phenomenal; unfortunately, for me, the piece quickly goes downhill from there.

I really have to agree there. I heard it for the first time not too long ago, and was profoundly bored by the end. However, it was profound boredom...

I'll have to admit; I agree aswell... I do like some bits from the thrid Mvt, though it seems as if he spent to little time on it.

Finally got a rec, listening to it now- the 1st movement is too beautiful for words (and Lipatti's playing is sublime as always, *sigh*)
