Worst Pieces to perform

Postby Jeliness2 » 06 Nov 2004, 08:47

I'd say one would be Chopin's Piano Concerto no.1 in e minor, since there's a three minute intro, where you don't even play, and finally, when you actually get to the first statement, you have a 40% of hitting one of the wrong notes :x .

L'isle Joyeuse, the piece is fine until the jump at the ending. So hard to bring out the notes clearly.

Oh man, I am playing this now......I can't wait until I make it to the end. As for difficulty I guess it depends on what your strengths are. For me, it would be Scriabin sonatas, well not all of them, but some of them can be painful. But other than that, I have no idea. I'll let you know about L'isle Joyeuse.

Cool, I learnt it a couple of months ago. I love the energy put into this piece. It's not that bad really, the hardest part for me is a little passage with mordented thirds or something at the start. Tendancy to hammer them..

I thought that piece was devilishly difficult as hell? (Debussy)

Hmmm, for me, it's anything classical... I have a tendency to mess up any Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven when I play them in concert :/.

The worst piece for me to perform in public is Wanderer fantasy. Man, it needs all the strength and power in the world. I played it once in an all "me" recital :P , I put it in the second half with some Rach preludes, and another Schubert impromptu..... By the time I finished wanderer, I had to leave the stage, take a 10 minute break and then come back.... :x

Heh, here's a word of advice:

"Never put Beethoven Op.109, 111 and Wanderer Fantasy in one recital.....'

Anything that I can't play well would be a bad performance piece for me. :D

Well, you wouldn't want to play things that will be too long and tire you out. I would say Chopin concerto. no.1 be a bad performance piece.

I did one of those one time, let's just say, it went very well. I didn't get toooo nervous, and after about three pieces you calm right down. However, the sun was right in my face the whole time and that made me sweat a bit.

Also, I met a couple of charming young ladies there whom I've kept in touch with every since! :)

Who plays three complete sonatas in a recital anyway, unless it's a cycle of a composer's works? That's alot to sit through for an audience. Complete sonatas wear on your average joe alot more than a variety of works.

That last sentence gives me some confidence :naughty: . Only at all the students concerts I've played at all the 'charming' ladies are aged -10 or +50. :|
